It’s my favorite literary character’s birthday today.
It’s hard for me to explain just how much the character of Hermione Granger means to me and how much she has helped me grow as a person, but I’m going to try my best.
The Harry Potter series in general has had an impact on me that I’ll carry with me for the rest of my life. And Hermione is one of the reasons why. When I first read the books at age ten or eleven, I couldn’t believe the similarities we had. Even down to physical appearance (I, too, had hair that was frizzy and bushy and just seemed like it couldn’t be tamed). To finally read about a character who I saw so much of myself in made me feel noticed and valid.
Hermione taught me not to be ashamed of my intelligence and the fact that I actually like school and learning and reading for pleasure. And in a way, Hermione taught me not to be ashamed of unapologetically being myself. Hermione gave me the confidence to do so. Because if she can do it, then so can I.
“Ultimately, she had a bigger heart than she had a brain, and that’s saying something for Hermione.”
“Young girls are told you have to be the delicate princess. Hermione taught them that you can be the warrior.”
Alright, y’all can think what you want, but I think this especially makes it obvious Ron and Hermione clearly had something going on at this point. It might not be explicitly said, but she is literally WASHING HIS UNDERWEAR.
